Gove rows back on EPC deadline

Well, it’s official! The government has announced that the requirement for private rented properties to achieve an EPC rating of ‘C’ has been scrapped along with a number of other climate change policies.

There is a recognition that the financial pressures on landlords to achieve the ‘C’ rating’ would result in increased rents for tenants during a period when they are experiencing plenty of other financial pressures. The decision ends a prolonged period of uncertainty for landlords, some of whom will undoubtedly already have incurred significant costs trying to improve the insulation on their properties and others, who will simply have sold up.

Generation Rent is furious, claiming that this will add costs to tenants. Seems like tenants lose whatever the decision.

If Labour wins the next General election, it could all change again. Watch this space!
